5 Common Chiropractic Techniques for Back and Neck Pain

Chiropractic care has been in existence since the 18th century. Chiropractors in Livonia perform different adjustments including spine manipulation to relieve joint pain and neck pain. According to the American Chiropractic Association, there are over 150 chiropractic procedures.

Here are the five most common chiropractic techniques in Arbor Crossing Chiropractic Lifecenter, PLC.

Man with back pain

Graston Technique

Graston technique is a type of manual therapy which involves mobilizing muscles using stainless steel equipment. The soft tissue muscle mobilization method is common among chiropractors, occupational therapists, massage therapists, physiotherapists, and osteopathic physicians.

An experienced chiropractor uses special Graston tools to find muscle knots by running the devices over a patient's skin to locate scar tissue. After tracing it, they break up the tissue to improve function and mobility.

Diversified Technique

Our chiropractors in Livonia also focus on the Diversified Technique. Call our office to learn more about how we use this technique to help people restore their bodies and relieve their pain.

Thompson Technique

Thompson chiropractic technique closely resembles the Diversified method. It applies a distinct table containing several segments known as drop pieces. A chiropractor can cock the sections slightly to move the table when they exert pressure. During the manipulation, the main aim is to open the joint. The drop pieces help the thrust by reducing the force necessary to adjust.

Flexion Distraction

Also known as Cox Technic, the treatment is used in many chiropractic facilities. It treats facet joint pain, disc herniation and scoliosis which leads to chronic back pain. You might feel a slight stretching motion. Flexion-distraction needs a particular adjusting table. The therapists treat disc herniation by stretching your back and aligning your spine.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Often, it focuses on ligaments and muscles rather than the spine. A physician applies it to areas with inflamed joints to clear up injury waste and scar tissue which may reduce a patient's mobility. Moreover, the therapy improves blood circulation, and it releases toxic compounds.
